Police Launch Web Site In Effort To Nab GUNS N' ROSES Rioters
January 23, 2003Vancouver police have opened an online GUNS N' ROSES rogue's gallery to help nab the hoodlums who trashed GM Place when the band cancelled their Vancouver concert last fall.
About 8,000 fans angry that lead singer Axl Rose didn't show up caused $400,000 damage to the building on the night of Nov. 7.
Police have had little luck busting any of the riot ringleaders, so yesterday they unveiled an online picture gallery in the hope that someone will identify people photographed at the scene.
"Police will find those responsible for the damage and criminal charges will go forward," said Deputy Chief Gary Greer.
Still photos and video clips seized from the media are now available for viewing at www.vpdriotinvest.ca.
"This is a new avenue for investigators," said Det. Randy Regush of the police major-crimes unit.
Greer said the information is being relayed to other police departments in the hope that out-of-town concertgoers will help out. Rose, a notorious no-show, also failed to appear for other dates on the band's tour, which eventually had to be scuttled.
Greer said an internal investigation into a police officer who knocked out the teeth of one fan is ongoing, but the investigation isn't expected to be complete in the near future.
